Hi I’m Luke.
This channel is where I document my guitar progress from beginner through to, one day, probably a long time from now, competent guitarist.
As a Dad in his 40's and with two young girls, my time is limited and I don’t really know anyone learning guitar or who plays guitar that lives near me.
I find that UA-cam has a lot of experienced guitarists telling us how to play which is great but nothing I can really relate to as a beginner.
So I want to change this and show what it is like following online guitar courses as a person with no discernible musical talent.
What you can expect to see on my channel:
- Progress Videos
- Guitar Course Play Throughs
- Guitar Course Reviews (I feel this isn't really covered by anyone and struggled to find reviews when I started learning)
- Tips for older beginner guitar players (passing on what I learn along the way)
I hope you find the content interesting and helpful.
Cheers
Luke

Famous Guitar Players Who Started Late

These are some famous guitar players who started late. There’s a misconception that learning guitar late in life is harder to do. It’s more difficult in the sense that life is busier and responsibilities are greater, so making time for it takes more intentionality. However, you will not somehow have a limitation on how well you will be able to play based solely on your age. 🎸 THE GEAR I USE 🎸 ►...

Thank you Sir! You just inspired me to never leave my house until I master my guitar!
4:36 But you don't have it switched to INST??? shouldn't there be a light on??
can some one tell me if the elgato eave xlr works for that?
Thanks so much man. I have played guitar for 31 years and seeing your progress really takes me back. I suddenly remembered all those nights of trying to play the simplest things...good work!
Do you hear your playing during recording?
Yes, great app, I must say. Sadly, I just don't use it. So BEWARE of these apps because they are a humongous pain in the ass to Unsubscribe from.
Respect .............Dont you ever stop ...........

Learning now at 38 with 4 kids, married, house remodel, and a demanding corporate job with different time zones. I just need some way to express art and creativity know what I mean.
I tried to do this with the same exact interface. After downloading the DAW It was just too fuckin hard to figure out. Recently saw someone's video on the interface he was working with made it sound so simple. It was a Volt 1, and Volt 2. I am thinking about possibly trying again with this Volt. Is that Focusrite still hard? Beginner wise.
Well done mate. What a difference in your playing in a year. Can I give one word of advice though. Playing with a metronome is really important.
I’ve been playing for about 6 months now and my skill has sky rocketed because I only play Hendrix songs and my 10+ years experience with piano (same notes). So imo if you have a little bit of music theory then just play the damn thing. I’m ALWAYS playing for hours on end. I work and play until bedtime every day.
I’ve owned guitars for 30 years. Used to think buying a new one would make me better, nope. It takes hard work and practice and PATIENCE. Unfortunately I let them sit for about 10 years without picking up. Now that I’m older and looking forward to retirement, I’ve started again, for about the last 2 years. I get frustrated but not as much the older I am, also it’s a journey that you can always get better at(we will never truly master, but get close). Thanks for the video, obviously we all feel this way from time to time! ROCK ON!!!
❤ great didint know T Móvel Ford. I remember of Joe Baiza ano starter to practice when 27, qnd even thought for little bit known in alt. music he is a jazz guitarrst
Hour is too long to he honest. I think consistency is key
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you but I'm a little bit older. My dad has been playing for 10 years and I'm about 10 months in now and that's damn good for a year man! Awesome actually. I know a few people that are year in and your way ahead of them by listening I can tell that you definitely put some time in
First time I tried learning guitar on my own I played for about 3 years and never got over stage 2 Now I finally got the courage to start playing again and I feel like I could maybe go on to stage 3 in another 3 years 😅
Do I have to grow a long beard to learn to play?
you should be a great player now, man. I started guitar in 2022, Mar 2023 to be exact. 26-month journey now. Still, not that fluent, not really a beast but I can have fun with friends while partying or play a few learnt-by-heart fingerstyle pieces. I really appreciate your video. Thanks for motivating lots of people, including me. Greetings from Vietnam.
Post something somewhere, brother. Let us know you're good. Just know that lots of us are thinking of you - hope to see an update soon.
I’m a month in and your videos have given me inspiration and the fortitude to keep practicing 🙂 . Are you still playing Luke ?
I’m in Paul’s LPP now and it is really helpful to me. I like it in that it’s ’holding my hand’ through what he’s got for me to learn so there’s little chance of me getting sidetracked and hitting a dead end. I’ve added Justin’s course too and am kind of switching back and forth - a lesson or two from Justin, one or two from Paul. Both very helpful. That said, if I had to only keep one it’d be Justin’s just for the amount of content. That’s my two cents at least. Hard to go far wrong with either. Great review! Thank you.
how do you use the practice mode
whats the amp sim program he was using? is it free?
well done mate. :)
They are different types of amps. You should compare Spark positive grid 40 vs Katana air
Chord progressions! ….hey reader….you may know a bunch of chords….but do you know they can be used like a scale? Well….that really gets you going and opens a door of……..well…I don’t know
Great job, I am trying to learn that song too. I started 4 months ago. Approximately how long do you practice each day? please.
My goodness... In just one minute of this video, I've learned two things I should have known so long ago. I feel ridiculous for not knowing them before. Thank you.
I’m currently using Justin’s course it’s great I’m at the end of grade 1 and I won’t be moving on till I have met his passing requirements memorize 5 songs and play at least one of them in front of at least one person I also plan on making sure I improve on my chord changes
Meanwhile I played on and off for a year and still can't switch to an F chord comfortably 🥲
Hello I wanted to ask if this would work with a Chromebook it runs on chrome OS I just want something that I can plug my guitar into that will give me a clean recording on my laptop?
Hi, I’ve been taking lots of online courses, I own probably about 300 of them. The course that helped me progress the fastest, indeed the best structured and clearest course, was the Fretlive Fretboard Mastery Programme by Pow music. It is not cheap but it is worth every penny. It is like a college guitar course, with homework that must be submitted. This aspect made me more accountable and pushed me to focus more in my practice. The live diagrammes showing where I had to put my fingers were priceless. I recommend the version which includes online lessons, as it really makes you feel like a college student and part of a community. Good luck, Gaetano
I’m currently in the process of learning the acoustic guitar, I was planning on just immediately playing the electric since that’s been one of my dreams, but my parents told me I should start with acoustic and then switch to electric. Let me just say, I’m so glad I listened because if I just went ahead and bought an electric I feel like I would regret it because I would have no past experience. My goal is to build up some experience on the acoustic guitar, then by the end of the year I’ll switch to electric. I’ll remember these tips when I get my electric guitar!
i just wanted a way to watch youtube lessons on the same headphones as the bass lol
its been 3 years .. how is the progress ??
That picking style is the only thing holding you back man. 🎉🎉 work on alternate picking and how to grip the pick. Some people might say I’m being mean, but if you just work on alternate picking and planting your wrist you will progress so damn fast.🎉 Cheers ❤
This looks more like 1 months worth of practice 🤷🏽♂️
Can you do better
Why did you decide to do another beginner course after completing Justin Guitar?
Im 29 i didnt play for 4 yeara now, because i want to learn without to paying to somebody, your video is one great motivation for me, btw. Great progress!
Luke I played guitar as a teenager not very well I've been playing guitar for 16 years now im 74 im on U tube I do jam nights in hotels in Sydney you have a lot to learn you can't rush it
I think the fact Justin has gone about teaching himself guitar with his left hand to better understand things from a beginner's perspective is amazing and I feel helped refine the course it's also free which I think is why everyone should do it when starting out, I think also it's important to not just stick to only what's being shown in a module you, of course, gotta practice stuff in it but you can also if you are feeling up to it branch a little outside of it and find things you want to learn now or even on youtube or in his other grades
Thank you for making such a clean straightforward tutorial. I had watched lots of other videos and this was far and away the best I felt like I knew exactly what I needed to do thanks to you.
Exactly #oldmanstillcan learn to play to guitar!
Guitar is out of tune😖
So with a pro account, can I let multiple people use the account without having to pay extra?
You haven't made any videos in a long time. I hope you didn't quit playing (or die)
Kyser capos are a no go for me. I have one and the spring broke after a while. Despite Kyser advertising a "guaranteed for life" warranty they won't repair or replace it. Buy one of the others.
How much time for day/week?
Kudos🎉
